Honda has announced that it has sold as many as one million hybrid vehicles worldwide at the end of September 2012, around 13 years after the first generation Honda Insight started selling in Japan in November 1999.
According to Honda, the fuel economy was achieved by the first generation Insight at 35km/liter (82.33 U.S. mpg) – the highest in the world.
Honda says that the hybrid technology will continue to play an important role, with the automaker currently selling its 8 hybrid models in around 50 countries.
Furthermore, Honda’s mid-sized vehicles will have a new two-motor hybrid system, and three-motor hybrid system, , the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive), which, according to Honda, will result in excellent fuel economy.
The new NSX will be the first vehicle to have the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system.
Honda seems to be determined to continue with its promise to save the environment as its global environmental slogan goes ‘Blue Skies for Our Children.’
