The National Insurance Crime Bureau of the US has made an ironical revelation, according to which, one bike is stolen every 11 minutes in the US, at the same time, the report has stated that the bike thefts were 6% less in 2011 when compared to 2010.
As many as 49,791 bikes were stolen in 2010, while the figures were 46,667 in 2011. Interestingly, there was an increase in bike sales, while a decrease in thefts.
Top five favourite brands of the notorious thieves have been Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Harley-Davidson, with over three quarters stolen motorcycles belonging to these brands.
California, Texas and Florida are the top three bike-theft states. While the months of July and August saw maximum bike theft activities, minimum thefts were reported in December and February.
However, with new safety measures put in place by the owners, like the alarms and GPS locator beacons, one can expect a decrease in bike theft cases in the years to come.
