Urban Green Energy and General Electric joined hands to come up with Sanya Skypump, which is a specially designed wind turbine that can charge the EV’s via an integrated charging station. Considering the increase in the number of EV’s, this compact wind turbine will be a great asset as it can be easily positioned in the city.
First of its kind is already installed and it’s functioning in Barcelona, Spain. The blades of the skypump have a unique design which look appealing to the eyes but more importantly are capable of being operational with wind speed as low as 11km/hr. The electricity produced will be sent to a Level 2 charger from where the EV’s can refill their charge.
One feature particularly not in favor of the Sanya is its inability to store charge when it is not being used. We think that in the coming days this shortcoming will be taken care of as it limits the use of the turbine. Many of these can be seen installed as plans are falling in place to install them in US and Australia later this year.
“Since launching the Sanya Skypump, we have received inquiries from companies around the world that are looking to embrace sustainability,” said Nick Blitterswyk, CEO of UGE. “The Sanya Skypump is one of those rare products that enable institutions to demonstrate their commitment to the environment while providing a really useful service as well.”
