Tom Cruise driven ‘Risky Business’ Porsche 928 car hits the auction blockJuly 25, 2012 by: Nishant Panwar
Well whenever you hear of auction, first thing that crosses your mind is antique, special. So is the famous Risky Business Porsche 928.
A Los Angeles auction called Profiles in History is auctioning the 928. The house says that the 928 got the most screening in the 1983 Warner Bros. movie Risky Business featuring Tom Cruise and Rebecca De Mornay.
During a make-out scene in the movie, De Mornay’s character, who apparently has a remarkable body, bumped the manual transmission of the 928 gearshift into neutral and it rolled into Lake Michigan.
There were 3 other 928’s in the movie – the 1981 with automatic transmission, 1978 with manual transmission (used for interior shots) and the 1979 manual on which Cruise learned to drive a stick shift as said by the movie’s producer, Jon Avnet.
It is the same 1979 manual that is being auctioned. The auction house has estimated it to fetch $40,000 – $60,000.
The 928 though looks like a AMC Pacer but is loaded with water-cooled aluminium V-8 engine. Well this Porsche was different from the other air-cooled engines of the Porsche cars.
Whatever it might have been but it was surely a marvel of fast comfort at the time and a model of Porsche that could never be forgotten.
