Gesture Technology: New gadget manages car controls with facial expressionsJuly 25, 2012 by: Nishant Panwar
Technology seems to be booming up day by day. From steering to power steering, Manual transmission to Auto transmission the technology upgradation at every stage is really unstoppable.
With new emerging technologies comes one more technology to make your life easier, simpler and totally relaxing while you are in your 4-wheel ride.
Well gesture technology had been in the market for a very long time but finally this has been implemented in cars too.
Engineers have created a gadget that controls the function of the car just by your facial expressions and gestures. The infra-red sensor mounted on the dash board recognizes driver’s expression and gestures. A computer inside the car then translates these gestures into a series of command.
While some of the gestures still kept for testing purpose include a blink to turn the radio and music player on/off though the technology is meant to differentiate between accidental blink and a wink by the length of the time of the action.
Well some of the gestures include nodding – nodding left will turn volume up whereas nodding right will turn volume down, similarly a slight tap on the steering will skip the station or song. Calling seems a lot simpler by just making a “call me” gesture and saying the name of the person.
The driver can adjust the AC and heating by raising and lowering the left hand above the gear stick.
The main aim of this technology is to keeping the rider safe while driving so that he/she doesn’t get distracted from the focus on the road.
