Audi and Lamborghini complete Ducati acquisitionJuly 22, 2012 by: Nishant Panwar
Well I am talking about bikes. You must be wondering – “So, what is special in that?“ Ok! So when I said motorbikes what was, Oh No, what were the thoughts that crossed your mind? BMW, Ducati, Suzuki, Yamaha, Harley and thousand of models of these makers?
Well, BMW has been making motorbikes for a very long time and have established themselves with the reliable police bikes, off-roaders and even some city bikes. But their most powerful and best seller was the R1000RR that boosted BMW’s image.
But seems like, the already established Ducati, has finally decided to challenge the Bavarians with the 1199 Panigale.
But there is more to it. BMW is mostly known for its cars and in that sector another powerful competitor of it is Audi. Now in order to challenge BMW in terms of corporate image, Audi with its huge capital decided the only weapon they have is the Italian motorcycle brand.
As a result Audi AG has taken over completely Ducati Motor Holding through its controlled company, Automobili Lamborghini. The company’s new Board of Directors appointed Rupert Stadler, the CEO of Audi AG, as the President of the Board and Gabriele Del Torchio and Claudio Domenicali from Ducati as Members of the Board alongside Horst Glaster and Axel Strotbek of Audi AG.
“Ducati is known worldwide as a premium brand among motorcycle manufacturers and has a long tradition of building sporty motorcycles. It has great expertise in high-performance engines and lightweight construction, and is one of the world’s most profitable motorcycle manufacturers. That makes Ducati an excellent fit for Audi,” said Audi board of management chair, Rupert Stadler.
With the takeover of the Italian giants Audi is definitely up for something big, really big, and has definitely set an alarm for the entire automobile industry.
