After Bajaj Auto and KTM, Hero Moto Corp and Erik Buell Racing, under similar arrangements will soon com – BMW and TVS Motors. BMW is reportedly in talks with TVS Motor to start a new era of motorbikes in India.
The Wall Street Journal reports the alliance of these two companies. TVS Motors is currently at no. 4 in the Indian market behind Hero Moto Corp, Bajaj and Honda. TVS is currently in the production of small displacement bikes such as the Apache RTR 180 and the Flame SR125.
The craze for motorbikes in India is always on the upward side and the emerging middle class seeking larger premium models the appetite of Indian’s for motorcycles is constantly changing.
As the statistics of the Journal convey that the sale of bikes of more than 125cc has increased by 17% in the past fiscal year to 2.99 million units. Comparing India in the two-wheeled market, India rose only by 12% topping 10.1 million units.
BMW as every knows produces much larger models, with C650 Sport and C600GT being the company’s smallest displacement engines. Both of them uses 647cc engine much higher than the 177cc Apache RTR 180.
Well it seems like the partnership would give the German company a head-start in the market seeing TVS’ established network. Well if it gets into the Indian market then surely the technological advancement in the machines in India will become a boon to the market of India.
With BMW eyeing the Indian market I guess its time the other companies should get ready for a much tough, stiff and difficult competition in the near future.
