Terrafugia flying car completes first round of flight testJuly 2, 2012 by: Rituraj Mishra
Terrafugia Inc. has invested a lot of money and efforts in their concept of the Flying car. It will be a heartbreaking scene if they have to shut it down because of any reason, but the good news is that their production prototype vehicle has passed the first among the six flight-tests phases.
This is an important achievement as clearing all six phases would entitle them to a certification from Federal Aviation Administration which would allow them to deliver it to the customers who have paid in advance.
The test was conducted at Plattsburgh International Airport in Plattsburgh, N.Y. The test had the agenda.
to check the power on and power-off handling, stability, engine cooling and propeller settings for different flight conditions. The flying car called Transition will be a one of a kind allowing the owner to drive and fly simultaneously. For this reason a number of drive testing is also being concluded.
The company is still taking deposits from customers who would like to have one of these in their garage. They are assuming the price to go around $279,000. They have planned to start delivering it in an year or two, but we will have to wait until one of these is in air as the company has been unable to keep pace with the time that they have promised in the past.
It is no doubt a brave attempt by a small company and if they succeed they will be no more a small company.
