Design Student creates Futuristic MG Midget Concept [Video/Photo Gallery]May 22, 2012 by: Rituraj Mishra
Six years ago, Nanjing Automobiles from China acquired the MG brand and couple of years ago it got incorporated into SAIC motors. The British carmaker is still to find any ground breaking innovation that would lead its charge into the global scene.
At the Beijing Auto show, MG provided a look into the future, with their Icon, which looked like a study for a mall crossover coupe.
Soon after that another model has been proposed, but this time by a student from the Coventry University in UK. The design student created the concept during his internship at SAIC Design.
The student is Yin Lu and his concept is called Midget, named after SAIC’s two seater convertible that was built from 1961 to 1979. It must have been popular at that time as the company went on to produce some 226,000 units of the car.
“The MG Midget Concept is a study of a compact mid-engined hybrid sportscar with a fiber-glass body,” says Lu.
What remains now is to see if it has any effect on SAIC’s fortunes.
