KTM reveals 2013 SX LineupMay 18, 2012 by: Rituraj Mishra
KTM has revealed its lineup of models for 2013 motocross and the highlight of this lineup is a new 250 four stroke engine and an upgrade to the 350 powerplant. The new 2013 KTM 250 SX-F featuring the new engine is a nice ride. The new engine is said to be lighter as it has used a new high strength aluminum alloy.
Although the piston is larger in diameter, it is still lighter which helps in attaining higher speeds. A laterally-positioned balancer shaft which drives the timing chain and water pump also takes care of the vibrations due to the higher speeds.
On the other hand 2013 KTM 350 SX-F gets slimmer by 500g due to a new die-cast housing and with the strengthened valves, valve seats and valve springs, installing lightweight titanium valves has become possible even at higher rev limit of 13,400 rpm. The production model gets a crankshaft from the factory race machines which allows for the high rev limit.
As for the 450, it is based on the 2012 Special Edition Ryan Dungey KTM 450 SX-F announced in January. To improve on rigidity all the models have received new frames and triple clamps. Updated suspension and new graphics all contribute to a better performing and good looking bike.
