Cane Toads: New Ford Falcon EcoBoost commercial video goes viral [Video]May 9, 2012 by: Rituraj Mishra
Ford’s Falcon EcoBoost will soon be seen on the Australian roads, but to see them there in greater numbers, it will have to etch its place in the customers mind. This needed a different approach and something catchy. Ford’s local division in cooperation with JWT Melbourne created an online commercial called the “Cane Toad Road”.
The history of Cane Toads is interesting, as they are native if Central and South America and were introduced here as a solution to the beetle population.
The viral video will be online only as of now with no plans to put it up on TV. The video shows two Cane toads talking on the road. Then they see a car coming their way, of course the car is Falcon EcoBoost. The male toad, named Ralphie guesses from the sound that it is a four-cylinder model and he doesn’t have to hurry to get off the road.
Now comes the surprise, the four-cylinder model is turbocharged as it is Falcon Ecoboost and comes quicker than anticipated by Ralphie and then only one Cane Toad remained. Though we would like to inform you no toad was actually killed or harmed in the entire process.
“This is seriously different for Ford; we thought the best way to overcome people’s preconceptions of Falcon EcoBoost was to kill a cane toad,” said JWT Melbourne creative director Jim Ritchie. “Although, we’d like to reassure everyone that no cane toads were injured in the making of this video. In fact, Ralphie and Les received nothing but star treatment.”
Couldn’t they have gone for anything other than killing a toad to show the speed?
