Back in 1960’s Neil Armstrong was a famous guy and he loved speed. During his time he drove a lot of Corvettes and out of those many one is up for sale. The car came to him for the first time on 15th December 1966 from a Florida based dealership “Jim Rathman Dealership”. At that time the dealer used to give the car to astronauts to boost the cars reputation and sales.
Astronauts drove it for a year and then returned the car, and they were again given a new one. So Neil Armstrong drove the Corvette for a year. Anyways the car found its next owner, who was a NASA employee and after putting on the roads till September 1981, he decided to keep it under climate controlled environment and then later it was passed onto its current owner.
The originality has somehow been lost, coz one of the owners tried to give the car flared wheelarches and also changed the carburetors, exhaust and water pump. So the car isn’t exactly what Mr. Armstrong drove.
The bidding for the old machine started at $100,000 on eBay and has now reached $249,990. Let’s hope the one who buys it has some more money to restore the car with its original parts and not just restores the car but with it the looks, heritage and the history associated with it.
