Manhattan residents fume over ‘Sex in Cars’; demand parking ban!April 27, 2012 by: Rituraj Mishra
Excess of everything is annoying, I have heard this like a zillion times and for some reasons I see its validity today. You will notice too, when you read about this weird complaint by residents of a particular area in Manhattan.
Recently in a particular block, club goers have been making out like animals in the back seats of their cars. The residents obviously have a thing to say about this and thus they have asked the city to ban parking of cars during weekends.
Residents around the West 30th between Seventh and Eighth Avenues have been facing this issue for a couple of years now and their patience is on the brink. They have complained about their streets being full of used rubber and other making out related stuff, which is a very annoying thing for any residential area. The drunk and vulnerable people coming out of Rebel NYC and The Parlour Midtown make the place their bedroom.
The Residents have now convinced Community Board 5 to support their unique request to make the area a no-parking on weekend nights. The board cannot enforce the band, so after the Voting they have petitioned the city to enforce no-parking rule for those streets on weekend nights
“There’s all kinds of problematic activity going on, like noise, violence, sexual activity and drug use,” Raju Mann, the chair of CB5’s Transportation Committee, said in support of the unorthodox request.
Department of Transportation is reviewing the proposal, while the residents wait in anticipation. “The cops are called all the time — drugs, sex, double parking, cars honking their horns, traffic blocked up,” said longtime resident Richard Schwartz.
The State Liquor Authority has recently denied The Parlour’s renewal of liquor license, due to their several violations. It could lose its license and be closed, which should be a news of relief for the residents.
While so much has been going on, Rocco Sergio, one of the Managers at The Parlour has denied knowledge about any of these incidents. For two years, not knowing about these things reflects badly on his managerial skills. Anyways this kind of behavior is intolerable and we wish the residents return back to a peaceful life soon.
