MINI to introduce Countryman JCW at 2012 Geneva Motor ShowMarch 1, 2012 by: Rituraj Mishra
MINI kind of lost some creativity with the EVO and STI taking strange shape and stranger comments for their rally performances. But with a Dakar win the Countryman is still holding MINI in good stead though it might be the only rally-worthy turbo that comes with a manual gearbox.
Since I love Dakar I could blabber all day long but let’s move with the car at hands, MINI Countryman John Cooper Works(JCW). The JCW comes with the standard MINI’s AWD system ALL4, a manual gearbox and a highly tuned version of the 1.6 liter twin-scroll turbo with direct injection and a variable valve control system.
Such a long description finally reaps a 215 bhp and 280 Nmof peak torque which might go over to 200Nm with the overboost resulting in 0-60 in 7 seconds and hitting a top of 225km/h. fuel efficiency revolves around 7.2lt/100km which is quite good, considering its role in rally’s.
Regular Countryman Cooper S can be customised to get this power of JCW but JCW is better for its redesigned suspension that is stiffer and lower by 10mm, also the 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels are new. Red theme for the interior is good and a sports button to get some throttle and steering feeling is a good addition.
Well it’s clear why Countryman holds it for MINI and with the JCW the future looks better.
