Ferrari Racing Boat Arno XI Hydroplane to go under the hammer, get if before it’s goneFebruary 22, 2012 by: Rituraj Mishra
A very special Racing boat named Arno XI Hydroplane is the only record holding boat Ferrari can boast of. The record set in the 50s still remains unbroken and is a scintillating example of the glorious history of Ferrari.
So it becomes pretty special news when that particular boat is about to be auctioned. Achille Castoldi and Ferrari racing driver Alberto Ascari developed the racing machine in 1952, under the able guidance of Enzo Ferrari. The expertise of Enzo still lurks around the boat.
As for the specs part, Arno XI has a 12-cylinder 5.5 liter Ferrari V12 also used in the Type 375 Grand Prix Car. In 1953 the boat set a record in 800 kg class which remains unbroken till date, emphasizing on the specialty of this boat. After that it was restored to its original condition and now will be hammered by RM Auctions at Monaco.
We are thrilled to be offering the historic ARNO XI for sale. This awe-inspiring racing boat has beauty, history, provenance and performance; it simply ticks every box for any serious collector,” says Peter Wallman of RM Europe. Nothing to disagree Mr. Wallman.
Expect a feisty bidding because nobody would let it slip easy.
