China’s Youngman JNP6250G is world’s largest busJanuary 19, 2012 by: Rituraj Mishra
Read the title and look me into the eye and say it doesn’t make sense. You can’t, coz it’s fitting and totally makes sense. Shouldn’t world’s largest country with the largest population deserve an amenity like this?
Most of the cities in China have populations in multi-millions. With the number of individual car ownership at an all-time high, these cities will be in deadlock on roads. Congestion would give way to long and never ending road blocks.
To deal with this situation, one of the potential solutions is Youngman JNP6250G. Capable of transporting close to 300 people, no wonder is it being called the largest bus in the world. Built by the Youngman Vehicle Group, the bus is 25 meters in length. A staggering, 13 meters longer than a normal bus, 5 doors, seating 40 people and a top speed of 82kmph, not bad for a giant of a bus.
A pavement level step and wide aisles and a central area especially for wheelchairs, it is an all-purpose bus. The accordion-ribbon joints make turning easy even with such a length. A fleet of these buses will be responsible for Bus Rapid Transit Service (BRT) in Beijing and Hangzhou and will have dedicated highway to optimise the bus speed.
The bus is an innovative and well thought of solution to our environmental concerns. The only thing that goes off-beat is the fact that accordion-ribbon joints haven’t found favour with cyclists and pedestrians, resulting in some accidents. If proper planning and tracking is done, we can hope for a great future of these Goliath buses.
